My Voice is My Power

Dear Reader

It has been said that stories were once as important to survival as a spear or a tool!

They gave counsel. They connected the living with the dead. Stories distributed the suffering so it could be borne.

We sincerely believe that stories give us a chance to change our lives, our outlook and our understanding. Your work as a playwright promises to continue to do that and more.

The works that have been submitted to our project are stories that have the inner capacity to celebrate the mind, the spirit, the dignity of the individual and their ability to overcome humanity.

As a playwright you strive to explore new horizons as cultures continue to offer and share their experiences as a mirror that reflects who all of us are, where we have come from and what we as a culture aspires to become.

One of the most important gifts a civilization can leave behind is its stories that are the essence of their existence.

Thank you for your submission.

Most importantly organizations like the Black Theatre Troupe are so fortunate that you, as a playwright, have accepted the challenge to preserve the time-honored and courageous responsibility of sharing stories that reflect the African-American experience.

Kudos!!
