i'm actually curious.... how much words do authors write per chapter?? i feel like the hardest part of writing (except writer's block) is deciding how many words is enough.

@savagesociety this is super helpful! i always feel pressured to hit a certain word count, when my usual is around 3-4k, but i love your idea of just writing until the scene feels complete. definitely going to try that instead of stressing over numbers

I feel like my average is 6k-8k words, but I definitely end up with 10k-13k words if I do more than one scene (using a chapter break) and have a lot of heavy dialogue in the chapter. I’ve totally published 3k word chapters before, especially when I want to switch to someone else’s POV. I just write what I feel makes sense for the scene and when I come to a natural lull or stopping point, I wrap it up. I never write with a word count goal, which helps me so much! I think I’d put too much pressure on myself and end up feeling like writing is a chore. Buuuut, I also have ADHD, so that’s a big factor for me lol.
