@immanueloluwanifise absolutely... It's like a rough Sketch (all pun intended). Even if it's something as simple as, the beginning, the mid point and the end. Some of my stories I go into more detail though, I marry character arc and plot point and all of that good stuff, plan out each chapter and how it ties into the overarching theme, but yeah. A sketch is necessary for my cluttered brain.

The way to write without outlining is to realize that the story is not about the plot, it's about people, miserable people. People with existential crisis. Broken people who's mere existence is their curse. 
          
          This is one of the basic things I know as I approach my writing.

@immanueloluwanifise But yeah I get what you mean, absolutely. What you explained all sounds like world building, which I also enjoy a lot. It makes a story well balanced. I think sometimes it boils down to the writer's personality. I'm more anxious and I like to plan as much as I can, so going with the flow would take more work for me. But I definitely get what you mean.

@immanueloluwanifise oh c'mon! You know character driven plots... like Breakfast at Tiffany's Holly Golightly. The focus is more on the character development than the plot. Think studio Ghibli movies (spirited away, Howl's moving castle). They exist, I like them most times, however I'd like to think even a story like that requires planning.
