"you don't know that."  he picked at a thread on his shorts as he spoke.  "you don't know who I used to be."

            he stayed silent for a moment,  avoid his gaze.  “  i don’t — i don’t  / know /  how to talk about … things.  it never really mattered,  i just needed to keep moving on.  it goes away eventually.  ”

"but it's not good for you  ,  dipper.  keeping it all to yourself is bound to boil over eventually.  your mind can only handle so much alone."

            “  it’s  —  i don’t mean to.  it just happens.  it’s easier to deal with things alone.  ”

            he hummed softly,  debating with himself if he even had energy to talk.  “  can we stay like this for a bit  ?  i missed you.  ”

he immediately wrapped his arms around him  ,  one hand moving in a rhythmic pattern against his back.  "do you wanna talk about it?  or do you just wanna stay like this?"

            they folded into his arms,  hiding his face in the crook of his neck.  “  thanks… long day.  ”

            dipper pecked his cheek,  cupping the other with his hand.  “  anything for you,  darling.  ”  he looked into his eyes,  noting the smile.  “  you don’t have to pretend with me,  you know that,  right  ?  ”  

he gave a small smile  —  one that didn't reach his eyes.  it was a poor attempt at feigning happiness.  "I know you are  ..  thanks."

um,  y—yeah.  go ahead.  [  they cautiously hand over the journal,  obviously stubborn to depart with it.  ]  it’s one of three journals my great uncle wrote.
