“I’ve treated courtesans, soldiers, nobles, and corpses. You’re none of those. This is my first time dealing with someone like you… so if you start reacting strangely to medicine, tell me before you keel over. I’d rather not learn by autopsy.”

“ Kid ? I’m only nineteen , ” he replies , a hint of annoyance in his tone , though he doesn’t let it bother him too much. He’d been called “ kid ” his whole life — annoying , but nothing new. “ And no , I don’t like needles . . . they make me uncomfortable , ” he sighs , tilting his head back slightly , not quite ready to answer. It’s not that he didn’t want to — most of his past was a blur , and digging through it took effort. “ If you mean my powers . . . well , my parents injected me with nanites to keep me alive , ” he explains , glancing away for a moment. “ It was after the lab accident , a last-ditch move to save me from dying. ”

“You fidget like this with every injection, don’t you? Your body clearly dislikes needles… yet you face swords without a second thought. Interesting… tell me kid how did you end up like this?”

Rex squirmed a bit — he’d never been a fan of needles , and being manhandled like this made it impossible to stay still. Medical stuff wasn’t exactly his thing. “ Alright . . . I’ll give it a shot , but no promises , ” he muttered , taking a deep breath and trying to settle down.

* Though he’s older now , Rex still carries his trademark sarcastic wit , cocky confidence , and unshakable determination — traits that seem impossible to erase. Yet he’s also open to new experiences , embracing the things he never had the chance to enjoy in his younger years.
