Chapter 4 up! It's a long one, be warned, but then this IS a novel I'm writing, not a short story.

On the advice of several readers I've exchanged every ampersand for "and", separated the prologue and first chapter, and have added the next chapter to my book. Thank you all for your advice and criticism both :)
