Chapter 1: Death Awakens

Izuku Midoriya had always known he was different. Not because he was born Quirkless in a world of heroes—no, this ran deeper. The dreams had started on his fourth birthday: visions of endless battles, of shadows that bent to his will, and of a throne made of obsidian where he sat as the Shadow Sovereign.

They weren't just dreams. They were memories.

"Arise," he whispered in his darkened bedroom, the word falling from his lips with practiced familiarity. His fingers stretched toward the shadows cast by his All Might nightlight, feeling the phantom pull of power that had once commanded legions. Nothing happened, of course. Not here. Not in this world. But he could feel it—the power of Ashborn, the previous Shadow Sovereign, coursing through his veins like liquid darkness, a cold fire that never quite extinguished.

The day everything changed started like any other. Izuku was walking home from another disappointing day at school, his notebook clutched to his chest like a shield. Kacchan's mocking laughter still rang in his ears, but even that familiar pain couldn't drown out the whispers that had grown louder in recent weeks. The air around him suddenly began to ripple, distorting the buildings and trees like a heat haze. It wasn't like the warping quirks he'd studied in his hero analysis notebooks; this felt ancient, primordial—a power that predated quirks themselves.

"Your time has come. Vessel of Ashborn," a voice echoed in his mind, deep and resonant like the tolling of a cathedral bell. "This realm no longer needs you. Others do."

Izuku's heart hammered against his ribs. "Who—what are you?" he managed to gasp, his knuckles white around his notebook.

In his chest, the power of Ashborn stirred like a beast waking from hibernation, ready to be unleashed in this new world. A thrill ran through him—part excitement, part trepidation. But first, he had an exam to prepare for.

As Izuku walked through the unfamiliar streets, he noticed how shadows seemed to dance at his feet, responding to his presence even without his direct command. A stray cat hissed and darted away as he passed, sensing something unnatural about the green-haired boy. He wasn't just Izuku Midoriya anymore, nor was he purely Ashborn. He was something new—something that would shake this world to its foundations.

The sun was setting over this strange new city, painting the sky in shades of crimson and gold. The towering buildings caught the dying light, windows blazing like fiery eyes watching his progress. Somewhere in the distance, he could feel powerful presences moving about their daily lives—auras that pulsed with potential and danger. They were unaware that Death itself now walked among them, wearing the face of a boy who had once dreamed of being a hero.

"I wonder," Izuku murmured to himself, running a hand through his green hair, "What Gon and Killua are doing right now?"

The shadow at his feet twitched, elongating slightly before returning to normal—as if eager to find out.

When he opened his eyes, the scent of unfamiliar spices and the hum of a different kind of city filled his senses. Izuku found himself in a bustling metropolis, unlike anything he'd seen before. The architecture was all wrong—a blend of modern skyscrapers and classical designs that reminded him of European cities he'd only seen in textbooks. People moved with purpose, but what struck him was the absence of visible quirks. No horns, no scales, no casual displays of extraordinary abilities. But what caught his attention most was the feeling in the air—raw, untamed energy that made his skin tingle and the hairs on his arms stand on end.

A newspaper fluttered past his feet, carried by a gentle breeze. He caught it instinctively, his eyes widening at the headline printed in bold letters: "Hunter Exam Registration Begins Next Week: Association Warns of Record Difficulty."

"Hunter Exam..." he murmured, the words triggering a cascade of memories that weren't his own—or rather, hadn't been his in this lifetime.

Izuku felt a smile tugging at his lips as memories—both his own and Ashborn's—clicked into place like puzzle pieces finding their home. He knew exactly where he was, and more importantly, why he was here. This world of Hunters, of Nen users and incredible challenges, would need what he had become.

"System," he whispered, testing a theory. To his satisfaction, a familiar blue window materialized before his eyes, glowing with an ethereal light only he could see.

            [Welcome, Shadow Sovereign]

            [World: Hunter X Hunter]

[Quest Available: Complete the Hunter Exam]

            [Reward: Access to Nen Abilities]

[Note: Your abilities as Shadow Sovereign will function differently in this world. Discover new synergies between Death's domain and Nen.]

The voice offered no answer, but the distortion intensified. Pedestrians walked past, oblivious to the phenomenon affecting only him. Before Izuku could process what was happening, reality fractured. The familiar streets of Musutafu dissolved like watercolors in the rain, buildings, and people fading into streaks of color. His body felt weightless, replaced by a sensation of falling through an endless void. His last conscious thought was of his mother's smile and the note he'd never get to write explaining where he'd gone.

I have outlined the first draft for Ashborn Izuku and Hunter x Hunter. It’s not much yet, but you can let me know what you like or suggest any changes you would like to make.

Shadow Hunter: Rise of the Sovereign

          Summary:

In a twist of fate, Izuku Midoriya discovers he's the reincarnation of Ashborn, the Shadow Sovereign and former Monarch of Death. Following a mysterious incident, he finds himself transported to a world where Hunters reign supreme - the world of Hunter X Hunter. Armed with the memories and powers of both his past life as the Shadow Sovereign and his experiences as a hero-in-training, Izuku must navigate this new world where Nen users and dangerous creatures exist.

As he works to understand his purpose in this new reality, Izuku realizes his powers as the Shadow Sovereign function differently here, interacting uniquely with the Nen system. While preparing for the Hunter Exam, he encounters familiar faces like Gon, Killua, and Kurapika, each with their own goals and ambitions. However, dark forces are stirring, and Izuku's presence as Death's incarnation begins to attract both allies and enemies.

The story follows Izuku's journey as he balances his inherent desire to be a hero with the tremendous power of the Shadow Sovereign, all while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens both the Hunter Association and the delicate balance between life and death itself.
