the biggest problem I have on making live adaptation of serial murderers and their crimes on this day and age of the internet. Is instead of spilling the grim reality of these crimes like documentaries and biographies do, it desensitized a huge portion of masses of the horrific crimes those people committed. because in the end of the day, even though they are aware it's a real story, at some point the film/series already diminishes the reality of threat since they see it being ""acted"". people start to talk about the suspect and their crimes casually, they slap silly music on scenes from the adaptation as if it's not a real person who went through that. it starting to feel like that the stories of these victims is being reduce to a bunch of hit posts and "banger tweets", instead of being cautious about this matter it gets thrown around everywhere with praises for an actor playing a vile person so well.
I haven't even mention yet the revictimization of their family & love ones or the frequent rise of serial killer glorification. That's a whole different talk.
It actually feels so unnecessary to create more movies about those criminals. Their stories doesn't deserve to be told in a cinematic manner, it deserves to stay as a formal criminal record/documented history that is meant only to be studied and use to raise awareness. Not be some kind of pizza & chill entertainment where a social circle get to dish about it so lightly.
And yes this is somehow about the Dahmer series BUT ALSO IN GENERAL I'm so so tired of those genre of media. I can get behind true crime docus that is grounded with a high sense of realism, but not this. I has enough of this.
