The concept for Healthy Detroit emerged while Nicholas Mukhtar was still in college in 2012. Recognizing the need for better public health infrastructure in Detroit, he established the nonprofit to implement innovative health solutions. His adept leadership enabled Healthy Detroit to secure significant funding, raising over $100 million, pivotal in developing robust health programs that significantly impacted the community. By 2017, the organization was managing a substantial annual budget of $15 million, a testament to his strategic acumen and ability to secure necessary resources.

Following his success in the nonprofit sector, Nicholas expanded his reach into public policy consulting in 2017 by founding Healthy Communities in Washington, D.C. This new venture allowed him to leverage his public health knowledge to advise on policy formation. He worked closely with notable figures such as Speaker Paul Ryan and Senators Rand Paul and Tim Scott and engaged with the White House's Office of American Innovation.

Additionally, Nicholas established Tera Strategies, a management consulting firm based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The firm provides strategic advice to various entities, including business owners and large corporations, aiming to refine their operational strategies and achieve long-term goals.
