I said I wouldn't be on for a while, but I was looking at my tumblr and saw that the KOSA (kids online safety act) bill got passed in the Senate a couple days ago. This is a HUGE issue. For those who aren't familiar with the bill, it is a bill that will ultimately ruin the internet and media of any kind. It is communist and violates the First Amendment - freedom of speech. It will censor so many things, including anything lgbtq+, history, and a ton more stuff that I can't remember off the top of my head. This means wattpad, ao3, tumblr, pinterest, tiktok, twitter/x, and so many more platforms will basically be completely taken down, and so much information on the internet will be censored. Many companies (and pretty much any use of internet) will require you to use and give out your government ID. Personally, if this bill gets passed, I know that kids, teens, and adults alike in the lgbtq+ community (or questioning) particularly will end up taking their own lives, either because they won't be able to interact in queer safe spaces or find information when they're questioning their own identities. Some people who I am close with even who would I am sure end up doing this because of the destroying of the queer safe spaces all over the internet. Any queer fanfiction, fanart, or ideas will be censored, and if this bill passes (as I've said before), citizens of the United States will only be able to see what the government wants us to see. This also spreads worldwide - as so much of the internet stems from the US. PLEASE look up scripts to call and email your state legislature if you are in the United States, telling them to vote NO for KOSA. This bill will NOT protect children, it will turn our country into a communistic society that our government claims to want to avoid. Please spread as much awareness as you can and call your state legislature!
