✰ Random Fact #9 ✰

A group of friends in Washington state have been playing a game of tag for more than 24 years
~ taken from the book '1,234 QI Facts To Leave You Speechless'

Wow, that is a long time!

The friends, who call themselves 'The Tag Brothers' used to play tag back when they were teenagers at high school. The tag competition ended on their last day of high school in 1983

At their high school reunion in 1990, they decided to reinstate the competition, both for friendship and competitiveness

All players have signed 'The Tag Participation Agreement’, which has three rules:
          1. They can only play in February, due to their commitments to their jobs and families (so it is possible to be tagged just before midnight and stay tagged for the rest of the year!)
          2. No touch-backs
          3. They must be honest - you cannot lie when someone asks you if you are 'it', otherwise you cannot tag them

The players go to all sorts of lengths to tag their fellow competitors. One man even flew in from Seattle and hid in a neighbour's car to tag his friend. Another player tagged his friend at his father's funeral when they were going up to receive communion

I swear this is the most commitment I've ever seen

✰ Random Fact #8 ✰

TW: intrusive thoughts about destruction of self/others

The 'call of the void' or ‘l’appel du vide’, is ‘an expression used to refer to intrusive thoughts, or inclination to engage in destructive behaviours in daily life. This includes thinking about swerving in the opposite lane while driving, or feeling like jumping off a cliff while standing on top of it.’

Although people do have the realisation they are capable of these actions, they do not follow through.

A study found that ‘about 50 percent of people have experienced aspects of the call of the void. It's the result of some kind of miscommunication in your brain.’

One researcher explained that: ‘your brain is basically sending an alarm signal. And that could actually lead you to … notice your surroundings. Then that more deliberative process kind of kicks in and you start to think, why did I just take a step back? Oh, I must have wanted to jump."

She says that ‘it’s not anything to worry about. They don’t mean you're going to do something, or not do something.”

A lot of people have them and although most people don’t act on these, that can negatively impact some. Please do not hesitate to talk to someone you feel comfortable talking to if you do feel this way.

I have felt the ‘call of the void’ before (mainly after watching this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6nuxmV6Zko ) and I think it’s actually really an interesting topic. The human mind is capable of a lot of things and I don’t know whether that is cool or scary or both.
