the  gentle  voice   ,    the  hand  reaching  out  for  him   ,    to  comfort  him   .    it  scares  him  even  more   ,    he’s  never  been  touched  kindly   ,    never  had  kind  words  said  to  him   .    not  by  his  owner   ,    not  by  the  police   .    light  gray  eyes  stare  at  him   ,    at  matt   .    never  trying  to  meet  the  superior  sat  next  to  him   .    he  feels  the  hatred  in  the  lawyers  eyes   ,    his  face   .    but  not  in  matt’s   .    his  face  is  gentle   ,    like  he  really  wants  to  listen  to  what  colin  has  to  say   .     “     i  don’t   ..    remember  exactly  what  happened   .    i  don’t  want  to  remember   .    but  it’s  there   ..    i’m  sure  it  is   .     ”     he  murmurs   ,    trying  to  steady  his  mind   ,    steady  the  fear  cursing  through  him   .     “     you  can   ..    you  can  probe  it   .    look  for  whatever  you  want  inside  it   .    it’s  real   ,    it’s  all  real   ..    i  can’t  fabricate  memories   .    please   —    i  don’t  want  to  die   ..    please   ,    i  don’t  want  to  forget  how  to  feel   ..     ”

            If these androids were so lifelike ,  then surely Matt could tell if he was lying the same way he could tell if a human was lying ,  right ?  If that was the case ,  then the RK900 in front of him really didn’t seem to be lying about anything .  The blind man didn’t need to see to tell that the android was incredibly stressed ,  however .  Taking action to try and get him to calm down ,  Matt lowered his voice a little bit ,  taking on even more of a friendly tone .   “ Hey ,  hey ,  try to relax ,  okay … ?  You’re okay here .  All we want to know is what happened and why it happened , ”   the student replied ,  cautiously extending his hand out to rest it on the table a little closer to the android ,  giving the hard surface a light pat .   “ I don’t know if it would show us the very moment you deviated in order to help separate what CyberLife made you do versus what you did with your own consciousness ,  but maybe it’s worth a shot .  Would you have any objections to us probing your memory ,  see what evidence might stand in court … ? ”   He could practically feel his superior giving him a look ,  perhaps for being a little too empathetic and treating the android like it was a human being ,  but android cases were a really hard thing for him to sit through .   “ We won’t let anybody hurt you …  If what you say is true ,  then please ,  let us do this . ”

“     you  don’t  understand   ..    you  don’t  understand   .     ”     his  led  had  been  shining  a  bright  yellow  since  he’d  sat  inside  this  interrogation  room   ,    but  now  it  shines  a  bright  red   ,    the  loud  thump  of  his     ‘    heart     ’     filling  the  air   ,    even  drowning  out  the  sobs  colin  let  out   .    his  stress  levels  were  rapidly  spiking  from  their  interaction   ,    only  able  to  think  about  them   ,    about  CYBERLIFE   .    he  didn’t  want  to  die   ,    he  didn’t  want  to  die  he  didn’twantodie   ...    he  tries  to  curl  up  and  disappear   ,    just  wanting  to  become  invisible  and  go  back  to  the  shitty  building  he’d  broken  into   .     “     deviation   .    it   —    it’s  a  crime   .    we  don’t  have  to  hurt  anyone   .    but  once  cyberlife  realises  we’re  free   ..    they’ll  do  anything  to  get  us  back   .    i   ..     ”     he  can’t  finish  his  statement   ,    head  hiding  in  between  his  legs  as  he  tries  to  calm  himself   .    he  can’t  self   —   destruct  before  they  know  how  evil  cyberlife  is   .     “     according  to  cyberlife’s  records   ,    i  don’t  exist   .    the  rk900  model  doesn’t  exist   ..    they  made  me  do  things   ,    and  they  don’t  want  anyone  knowing   ,    it’ll  destroy  them   .
