The thing is…you can’t control other people. You’ve never been able to. You never will be able to, so improve your life this instant by LETTING IT GO.
You can’t control if they like you.
You can’t control if they choose you.
You can’t control how they perceive you.
You can’t control how they treat you, or whether or not they stick around for the long-haul.
You can’t control how they pick up the things you put down.
You can’t control other people.
The harder you try, the more frustrated, bitter, angry, annoyed and anxious you will become.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I think sometimes this lack of control is what makes friendships so hard. At least, I think that’s what’s made it hard for me, because there is never ever ever truly a guarantee that it will go the way you want it to go. There is never a promise that feelings won’t be hurt, or that trust won’t be broken, or that things won’t fall sideways.
Friendship insurance doesn’t exist.
So the best advice I can give is to control yourself. Know that you’re in charge of you—your words, your actions, your thoughts—all that. Do your best. Put your heart into the friendship and then love them well and leave the rest out there.
Those who don’t stick around or won’t hear you out or won’t apologize when their wrong , people like that are not worth your time
