Lux runs through the night to a cottage to see Mace, the man she loves, knowing she is already engaged to another man chosen for safety and expectation. They share a brief, tender reunion before confronting the truth that their love cannot change her future. Lux admits she is going back to her engagement, and the visit is a goodbye rather than a beginning. At dawn, she returns home, carrying her love for Mace quietly within her as she learns how to live with the choice she has made.
Lux came by an unexpected stroke of inspiration and, thank God, sufficient holiday time. It was written over about three sittings, two for the actual story and one for editing.
There are some things I've changed after my latest editing session on 1 Jan. So if you last read it last year (golly is it weird saying that), you might want to check it out again to spot the changes!
