guftam ki hoori ya pari
          	gufta ke man shah e butaañ

          	I asked, "Are you a nymph or an angel?"
          	The beloved replied, "I am the king of beautiful ones."

آ ساجن مورے نینن میں، سو پلک ڈھانپ توہے لوں
           نہ میں دیکھوں غیر کو، نہ توہے دیکھن دوں

          आ साजन मोरे नैनन में, सो पलक ढाँप तोहे लूँ
          न मैं देखूँ ग़ैर को, न तोहे देखन दूँ

          I’ll look at no one else, nor let the world catch sight of you.

@_h0rr0r this reminds me of:-

            be-jurm-o-khatā qatlam az nāz-e-butāñ kardī
            khud tegh-zadī bar man nām-e-digrāñ kardī

            Without any crime or fault of mine, you slew me with the charms of beauty;
            You struck the sword into me yourself, yet you blamed it on others.

I remember reading Wuthering Heights for the first time, nearly 8-9 years ago. It ails me to see what these uncultured scoundrels are doing to my beloved book :/

@nuktachiin urdu poems are the best. And no no, I'm still learning to be cultured. And of course, you're welcome, dearest.

            And yes Arabic is complicated. I remember trying to learn it and leaving it halfway because I just couldn't do it :/ But I learned persian though, and now I can understand the persian poetry of masters. But still, I'd still learn to learn Arabic one day.

            I know some words and phrases—ana bahebak, qamar, noor ul ain, laayik, kazaab, bait, ketaab, khabar etcetera.

@nuktachiin my ex was pakistani & she sung many urdu poems & songs to me, i am enamoured by the language, it is so romantic. ur love of languages is so admirable!! ur very cultured. thank u for all ur recs, u expand my mind.
            the construct of time in general is very different in arabic because the arabs had different mystic ideas of the mechanisms of time & space. languages by people who are nomadic in nature will not have direct linear ideas of tenses. i find it so fascinating how u can derive the character of a people via their language & the way it evolves & adapts. tenses in modern arabic are that the past & the present are one tense, & the future is another. the third "tense" is a root word, usually used for orders or commands.

@777sija now that i think about it, Arabic doesn't have direct present tense—is, are, am. How does it work then? I'd be glad to learn new knowledge :)

One day, I'll marry someone who knows Hindustani classical music and can sing Thumris, Dadras and Chaiti in Raag Marwa and Mishra Khamaj to me.
