رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِىْ الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِىْ الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار
Rabbana atina fid dunya hasanah wa fil akhirati hasanah waqina 'azabannar
Our Lord! Give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire (Al-Baqarah:201)
It is one of the prestigious dua for the protection and salvation from Hell which means Ya Allah, provide us goodness or righteousness in Dunya (world), and provide us goodness in Akhirah (afterworld) and save us from Hell.
This dua clearly means that the supplicator is seeking success in this world and afterworld and the most important seeking protection from Hell.
The power of this dua is that it’s said to be like an all-inclusive vacation, it is open-ended and asks Allah for anything you could have in mind.
When you recite this dua, you intend to do so for a specific reason, and Allah knows what’s in your mind. In a nutshell, this dua is a compilation of all prayers in that it covers the entire spectrum of man’s earthly and otherworldly goals.
Apart from enjoying world peace and peace in the Hereafter (afterworld), the dua also mentions safety from “the retribution of Fire” at the end.
For this reason, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) prayed frequently with these invocations, so that His Ummah also recites and get salvation from Hellfire.
Also, This dua is helpful for seeking good health and cure, because it’s a favor from Allah (ﷻ) on you, as people suffer a lot due to bad health.
Hasanah in Akhirah (afterworld) mean?
In Akhirah, Hasanah means beginning our next lives in comfort, being able to give correct answers in the grave, receiving glad tidings from angels.Being granted easy reckoning, receiving the book of deeds in the right hand, passing through the Siraat [bridge] with ease, entering Jannah, and seeing Allah (ﷻ).
Waqina Azabannar means to be spared even for a fraction of a second from suffering the flames.
