          Si Maria Estella del Yabes ay isang anak ng mangingisda at ng isang labandera. Pinalayo siya ng inay niya ng makitang pagtangkaan siyang  gahasain ng ama niya. Wala siyang nagawa kundi sundin ang utos ng kaniyang inay. Pinasakay siya ng ina niya sa isang sasakyan ng dayuhan. Tahimik siyang umiiyak. Walang magagawa ang ina niya kapag nanatili siya. Ang ina niya ay binubugbog lang ng ama niya. Bata pa lang siya ay nakikita na niya kung paano manakit ang ama niya. Na gising siya dahil sa mahihinang tapik sa kaniya. Nang imulat niya ang kaniyang mga mata lakimg gulat niya. Isang lalake na gwapo at makisig. Isang adonis.
