            jewel couldn’t help but smile as she watched penelope stare at the carpet . growing up , it had been her favorite mode of transpiration and she was shocked to discover that not everyone owned one . her parents had agreed to let her take it for the school year . she supposed that to most it must appear quite strange , even in a school that was full of magic . her shoulders lifted in a small shrug . “ i don’t know if it has a name per say , i’ve always just called it michael . it responds to that just fine . ” turning back to the carpet , she took a moment to appreciate it a little bit more than she usually would . “ if you would ever like a ride , i’d be happy to take you , ”

penelope   took   a   slow   step   backward   ,   her   neck   craning   as   she   followed   the   unbelievable   path   of   the   fabric   suspended   in   the   air   .   she   blinked   rapidly   ,   half   expecting   to   see   thin   wires   or   a   hidden   platform   ,   but   the   carpet   simply   rippled   with   a   life   of   its   own   like   it   was   resting   on   a   cushion   of   invisible   water   .   a   look   of   pure   wonder   spread   across   her   features   ,   her   lips   parting   as   the   sheer   impossibility   of   the   sight   hit   her   full   force   .   she   held   her   breath   for   a   moment   ,   her   fingers   twitching   at   her   sides   as   if   she   wanted   to   reach   out   &   touch   it   just   to   confirm   it   wasn’t   a   dream   .   ❛   not   used   to   it   ?   ❜   she   let   out   a   small   ,   breathless   chuckle   ,   her   eyes   shining   with   a   mix   of   delight   &   shock   as   she   gestured   toward   the   levitating   wonder   .   ❛   i   don’t   think   anyone   in   their   right   mind   could   ever   get   fully   used   to   a   piece   of   furniture   deciding   it   no   longer   cares   about   gravity   .   it’s   …   absolutely   brilliant   .   ❜   she   tilted   her   head   ,   watching   the   tassels   flutter   ever   so   slightly   .   ❛   does   it   have   a   name   ,   or   do   you   just   call   it   when   you   need   a   ride   somewhere   ?   ❜
