A storm had passed through the mortal harbor, leaving wreckage scattered like bones. Poseidon walked through the ruins of ships and broken docks, seawater clinging to him like armor.
          
          When he saw the familiar shadow waiting among the driftwood, he only sighed.
          
          “Another soul lost to the deep,” he said. “I could’ve saved him.”
          
          His voice softened then — almost regretful.
          
          “But I suppose that’s your realm now. Tell me, Thanatos — does it bother you, knowing I take as many as you do?”

          SATAN appears before THANATOS , his crimson eyes widening .
          " oh my stars— it’s you ! " he blurts out , nearly stumbling over his boots .
          he clasps his clay tablets to his chest like a child clutching candy .
          " THANATOS ! the reaper himself ! i cannot believe this ! i’ve read so much about you , you’re practically the crown jewel of afterlife management ! "
          
          SATAN circles him with boyish excitement , hands fluttering in the air as if he doesn’t know what to do with them .
          " you have to tell me— do you actually use a scythe ? or is that just mortal propaganda ? oh ! oh ! and what’s your favorite soul to reap ? "
          
          he grins ear to ear , looking for all the world like a cosmic entity who just met his idol .

            SATAN claps his hands together, the sound muffled by the clay tablets he still holds.
            " oh my goodness— both ? both please ! " he squeals, nearly bouncing on the balls of his boots. " may i ? may i ? "
            
            he holds out a trembling hand like a child asking permission to touch a relic.
            " i have so many questions— do you carry them for ceremony or for work ? do you ever polish the blade ? does it hum when a soul is near ? and the scythe— is it heavy ? does it sing when it cuts the tether ? "
            
            he leans in, eyes shining, voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.
            " also— if it isn't rude— may i interview you for hell’s library ? just a few notes. name, preferred reaping method, favorite memory of the harvest— i will carve it here and keep it safe. promise i won't pelt you with wrenches. "

            THANATOS was startled by the sudden appearance of the lord of hell,  in addition to SATANS excitement and joy, his purple eyes widening. “greetings, lord satan”
            
            upon seeing SATAN nearly stumble, the winged god of death reached out a hand to steady him, his touch gentle. “i am honoured that you have read about me,  i have heard lord hades mention you on occasion.”  he spoke, bowing in respect. “i do not believe that i am the crown jewel of afterlife management, but it is very kind of you to say so.”
            
            THAN would watch the way that the suited cosmic entity circled him with boyish excitement, his hands fluttering in the air as if SATAN was unsure or uncertain of what to do with them, the god of death tilting his head slightly. except for his family, ARES, and a few other gods and goddesses, THANATOS was disliked by many, perhaps even feared or hated, even though  beings, such as the keres and some of the other  children of nyx,  to a name a few, were endlessly more fearsome than he was. SATAN’S display of excitement towards him was uncommon, rare, and unusual for the gentle, calm, and peaceful god of death to experience. “i own a scythe and a sword, though i seldom use or wield them. there are other symbols that i am associated with. however, if you would like to see my scythe or sword, or both, i will show them to you. it is my duty, my purpose, to reap souls.”
