          My phone suddenly feels heavier in my pocket. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say, but my voice comes out higher than usual.
          Kristen’s eyes gleam with triumph. She’s not going to let this go.’

          “No!” She backs toward her bathroom, shaking her head. “Just... no. I can’t do this anymore.”
          I reach for her arm. She jerks away from my touch like I’ve burned her, stumbling backward into the bathroom. The door slams with enough force to rattle the frame. The lock clicks immediately after.’
