Words never really meant anything to her, that was just something he'd have to learn.

Words were the most basic form of human communication, and the easiest to manipulate. Things said didn't need to be true or even realistic, you don't even need to be a writer to know that. So, she learned to not respond to meaningless sound unless there was action behind them. People that repeatedly proved their words were right were a lot more worthy of her having say her return.

But those people were often rare and fickle. She'd watched people time and time again set their sayings in concrete only for it to smash when they didn't get their way. Those words were more meaningless, they were simply lies.

Most words were meaningless. She didn't care for the small talk or the silly stories, she liked words that meant something to people, what they believed in, their goals, their morals, their ideas, their traumas, their passions.

Though that wasn't always the case.

Most of time, she didn't really care what he said; she just liked to listen to him anyway. Sometimes she knew the things he came out with were total bullshit or she completely disagreed with whatever controversial worldview was on his mind today, but she still listened anyway. It gave her a chance to use her own words, it was fun to debate or simply get a deeper understanding of another person's point of view.

She liked his voice, even if the words that the sound came with weren't as pleasurable, she always found herself invested in the noise of his mind, even if sometimes things in her own department were too loud to pay attention.

@petrichor_idyllic Though, even though she hates to admit, sometimes his words got to her. They never hurt her, the joking insults or digs were a common, fun part of their relationship and they didn't do any harm.

But sometimes his words weren't as joking, they were soft and serious; almost honest. He said things she'd heard thousands of times; things she should do, things she shouldn't because they weren't good for her. She was always too proud to listen. She didn't like that this boy had walked in and made her question solid morals and thoughts, mindsets she'd maintained for years.

She knew she didn't need his praise or his pity, no one else offered it anymore. Critiques were common so the insults no longer hurt but she had no immediate reaction to positivity either. It was strange having him tell her he was proud of her, it didn't really matter, she'd do it anyway but she couldn't remember the last time that phrase passed someone's lips. It's like everyone else had forgotten that she could do a lot less, she just chose not to.

He did that a lot, claimed he was proud. He claimed to see her. He claimed she was special. He claimed a lot of things.

She still didn't care for his words, but his actions over how adamant that what he said was fact made her think about things.

His words made everything feel so complicated, so uncertain, so unpredictable. They reminded her why she similtainiously craves and hates the silence.

Alright since you're going ham with coming up with future scenerios, I thought I'd take a crack at one. This one ain't like yours and don't think too much into it lmao, we don't know what's gonna happen at the end of the day.

The sun slowly crept towards the horizon as the pair stared at the seafront, only the sound of the waves and the wind there to place her in reality. Her head had been so loud recently, she enjoyed the calming noises of what the world had to offer sometimes. Not that it really mattered; she wasn't looking at the sun or the sea. She was looking at him.

"It's been a while, huh?" Her voice was barely caught by the breeze as her hair danced around her face. Everything felt so complicated. Not the bad kind but she didn't know if it was the good kind yet either. The situation wasn't even complex, but her mind knew that it would also be for her.

"What's been a while?" The boy looked at her, his eyebrow raised, the puzzled expression taking over his normally cocky smirk and atmosphere. She chuckled and shook her head, brushing off his questions in one swift motion. Cryptic. That's what he'd call her for this. And maybe she was, maybe not every book has pages that are so easy to read, even if she didn't see herself as such.

The quiet waterfall was easily drowned out by the music from his speaker as they sat on the strange little structure, just sitting in peace.
Not exactly what she thought would happen today, but hey, she wasn't complaining. Having some spontaneity wasn't a bad thing and this was strange but honestly what was there to lose.
Things had clicked by now and the realisation that this was probably a bad idea was settling in yet she was completely unfazed. It hadn't been long but she'd already decided she liked his company, it wasn't like the connection she had with her friends but that might've been because she only had a brief idea of who he was.
Though, there was a strange edge to their relationship. The temptation to move closer was there but there was definitely something wrong with that. Of course there was, things could never just be simple unfortunately. Simple was boring at the end of the day though and she knew that wasn't what she wanted.
Being close was dangerous and she knew it. Standing up, she jumped down and announced she was going on a walk over her shoulder. She didn't expect him to follow, she'd obviously return in a short amount of time to lengthen the distance, yet he still trailed after her.

The last couple of days were weird. She'd spoken to this random boy she met in a corridor more then she had most of her friends and she'd seen him more then she thought she ever would, considering she expected to never see him again after their first interaction. Yet, he seems to be by her side every chance he gets. Side by side at nearly every second, it was increasingly abnormal.
His hand rested on her hip and held her close enough for things to look more then platonic but not enough for there to be anything more then an outward appearance. She didn't mind the closeness or the contact even if there was a conflict of interest, at the end of the day, if he chose to act this way then that was on him. She could tell he was facing some kind of internal struggle but she wasn't about to point it out. He could make his own choices. Even though that's what she should've been thinking, she didn't trust him enough to do what she perceived as right.
The darkness made things easier as she could feel his gaze on her because this wasn't meant to be real. It shouldn't be; things were far too complicated for them to be this peaceful. It was nights like these that she felt okay. Not stressed or lost or clouded, just alive. Nobody here expected anything and she didn't expect anything from anyone either.
That did change anything here though. Set in her morals, her hesitation scared her but even so the moment couldn't last long no matter what either of them wanted.
She simply smiled and stepped away.

She stood in the quiet corridor whilst the boys walked past, glancing up to see the new found company in the dead stretch of the college, she raised her eyebrow at the obnoxious pair as they tried to shove eachother into classrooms. Something that wasn't exactly out of the ordinary in this place, she quickly loses interest.
The class should've started by now and her classmates were no where to be seen along with any sign of their teacher, so she continued to scroll through her phone. With her friends being away, the stress and panic of being in the wrong place didn't take long to build up and make her paranoid, not that she saw the point in going to a class that she'd already done the work for. Twisting the make-shift chain attached to her jeans around her finger to try and calm her nerves, she needed a distraction.
