Question! 
          
          Do long chapters turn you off as a reader? 
          
          I'm seeing that "a lot of readers" prefer chapters between 1300-2000 words and I typically don't write with a chapter word count in mind. I just write until the characters whisper, 
          
          "This can be continued in the next chapter"

@phoenyxmoon i write chapters that can get super long and reader engagement is still relatively fine for me! sure having chapters above the average length may scare off some but longer chapters def also have their audience here on wattpad, so i'd just focus on what feels best to write for you as a writer :]

@of-wine-and-ecstasy I'm the same way as a reader! I tend to write the way I like to read, but have been thinking more about getting reader engagement.

@phoenyxmoon there isnt really an amount of words that turns me off when i read a story privately (so anything i dont read for review reasons). i think a chapter should go for as long as it feels natural to write or read, which can be 2k, or 5k, or 10k. if the writing flows well, i don't care how long the chapter is! (though i'm also the kind of person that'll happily pause reading in the middle of a chapter and continue where i left off later, which many people dont like doing apparently)

I like sharing excerpts from things I’m writing! I’ll usually share screenshots on Twitter (phoenyxxmoon) but there’s option to share photos here. But! Have an excerpt from a story I’m currently writing :) 
          
          -*-Flames spark to life in his palms, steadily building to a crackling roar. He never knew what to say as he watched the bodies burn. So he stood quietly, watching, making sure they actually burned down to ash. A small gust of wind picked up the remains, carrying the woman on the wind. 
          
          In a few days, there will be a missing persons report. And within the subsequent days, the media will run a story about a body being found, probably in the Heights, and the family will do a tearful press release. When the cameras turn off, so will the tears. 
          
          Theo didn’t know until he became a hunter, but there’s a dollar amount that can erase grief. 
          
          He closes his fists, snuffing out the flames that danced in his palms, and shoved his hands in his jacket pockets. When he makes it back to Kerin, the trembling in his fingers has stopped. 
          
          “It never gets easier,” Kerin whispers softly. The child is cradled in his arms, crying having worn them out. 
          
          Theo responds, tone stoic, “I would hate myself if it did.”-*-
