So my mom just asked to see my laptop. Let me make this clear she NEVER asks to see mine or my sisters stuff. She has done this once before and ever since then I do everything to do with my online username (Pinkgiraffe1604) in an incognito tab. I only do this so it doesn’t come up in my search history or recommend in case she ever asked again. The only 2 people that know about the things I do online (my Tumblr blog, my writing and my YouTube) are my sister and her boyfriend who are subscribed to my channel (Thank you H and H if you see this). I like the fact that it is a thing almost no one knows about me, no one did know about it for around 8 months of me starting but at the same time I’m shit at keeping secrets. Trying not to tell people has literally been so hard over the last 10 ish months. However I know that if my mom found out that I had a Youtube channel or that I put out fan fictions that get thousands of reads that she would shut that shit down real quick. I don’t understand her honestly my sister had a friend that she met online who completely lied about everything to do with his life for MONTHS and she was fine with it. But the minute I would tell her that 1 of 2 things would happen. 1. She would make endless jokes at the expense of one of the only things that makes me happy causing me to not want to do it anymore and 2. She would force me to show her and then tell me not to do it anymore. The fear of her seeing my work literally made me almost have a meltdown (I'm autistic and have a VERY big problem with people looking at what I create out of a fear of inadequacy that's why I like online usernames so much). So listen up parents, if you stumble upon the fact that your child has a creative online hobby, as long as it’s a safe one and they’re being safe about it, LEAVE IT ALONE. If they come to you with it, listen but if not don’t question. AND DON’T GO THROUGH YOUR CHILDS THINGS TO BEGIN WITH. Your child learns not to trust you, when you don’t trust them
