This is really unlike me to post about my political views here, but I've got to speak my mind.
I've been hearing that schools all over the country and taking part of the school walk-out to raise awareness and peacefully protest for the government to pay attention and modify their gun laws.
But now, I've been hearing that teachers and staff from those schools are threatening to punish their students for participating in the walk-out, punishments like detention and even multiple day suspension being pushed.
Someone close to me who lives in Florida had the same thing told to them; that whoever participates will be punished with detention. And I was honestly not surprised to hear that this was happening all over the country, so I’m finally going to say say my opinion on it.
I usually don’t post about my political views on here, and probably never will again, but I must say that even though I am in no way close to where the shooting happened, it’s still ridiculous that even TEACHERS are trying to take away the students’ rights to a peaceful protest by punishment threats, especially when what they are teaching their students is that they have their basic human rights to use at times like these. Protesting against those punishments and going through with the walkout anyway will cause a chain of events that will leave the school’s team in possible jeopardy for not fighting for their student’s safety.
Fight back and fight for your human rights and your safety, no matter what threats you may get or where you live. This doesn’t just affect Florida, this affects schools across the country who are demanding their rights to a guaranteed safe education.
Your safety is so much more important that what punishments may come your way for not fighting for it.
Sorry about the rant, but this has gone too far.
