Important author notes!!
Hello authors, I have a few tips and notes for all authors to help if you are a beginner author or have already written a whole series!
LIMIT CRITICISM IN EARLY DRAFTS
Meaning, fight the urge to reread your story as you can. If you go back to reread it and change every little thing, you’ll never finish! Instead, write down your chapter completely, THEN go and reread it, so if you feel you want to change some things, you won’t start all over.
VARY THE LENGTHS OF PARAGRAPHS
Don’t feel you need all of your paragraphs to be the same length! As long as you get your point across in your paragraph- move on to the next!
TO GENERATE SUSPENSE, USE INTERNAL CLIFFHANGERS
“To propel readers, make ‘em wait.” That’s the key to a good novel. Make the readers want to turn to the next chapter, making them crave the suspense. Adding small cliffhangers at the end of every chapter is a good way to get your readers hooked.
LEARN FROM YOUR CRITICS
No one likes to be criticized. Especially from a random reader that you don’t know. But here’s some things to note when you’re being criticized. Do not fall into the trap of arguing about the matters of taste. Do not, as a reflex, defend your work against negative criticism. Explain to your critic what you were trying to do. Transform arguments to conversations.
I hope this helps you on your writing journey!!
