shut up. * leave it to ren to pull an "i told you so" at a time like this. rey clenched her teeth & exhaled sharply through the pain. the midnight silk of her gown hid the blood well, but she knew the full extent of her injury. *

" i think so! " the young jedi concealed her doubt with a bright smile. strong as she was with the force, rey had yet to develop full trust in her abilities. it was true that she'd made huge steps with her self confidence, but there was still an immense fear hidden deep below the surface, the type of fear she couldn't bring herself to speak about even with CAL.

the same terrible nightmare haunted rey every few nights, waking her with gasping breaths and a cold sweat. pitch black robes, deathly pale skin, razor sharp teeth, and eyes like glowing crimson embers... it was HER, but not her. if this vision was a glimpse into rey's future, and she desperately hoped it wasn't, what if she turned on kestis someday? what if all this training, all this patience, all this sacrifice, meant nothing in the end? rey couldn't stand to think of it.

⠀⠀ ... ⠀ ̗̀ ៹ ᭡ to cal , it was much more than a choreographed routine . having control , good aim , and knowledge of various moves was important . she was far from where she started , that was for sure , but he knew she could do better . BE better . after all , he had worked on this for a long time and look where he was now . she was learning quickly and he had never felt such pride as he did then . " great job . ready to switch things up ? " he wondered , noting how accustomed she had become to the progam . @quarterstaffs

rey lifted her chin and adjusted her grip on the lightsaber, giving kestis a quick nod. learning from multiple jedi offered rey a clear advantage ─ kestis's fighting style differed greatly from skywalker's, and as a result, rey possessed a deeper understanding. it wasn't as simple as hitting things with a glowing stick, there were techniques, styles, disciplines.

the training droid fired its first laser, and rey was READY. she lunged forward, swinging her saber to meet the programmed series of blasts. the girl still failed to understand exactly why a choreographed routine would aid her in battle against a less predictable opponent, but she trusted kestis. what other choice did she have?
