“Will we ever become the couple we once were Vikram?” I asked, trying not to shiver or be desperate. At this point I was even ready to be desperate.   
          
          “What were we once Preethi? What were we?” Running his other hand through his hair, he let out a deep breath through his nose. “I don’t know Preethi. Everytime I look at you, I wonder what reason you would find to insult me, run away from me, and put me in misery. Everytime I look at you, I feel like a failure. I couldn’t even keep you with me, forget keeping you happy.”
          
          “Vikram, I was always happy with you and I am.” I cut him off before he could add anything.
          
          “Oh really? Are you happy now? With tears streaming down your face as if you have been hurt, how can you claim that you are happy. You are not happy with me Preethi, and I cannot do anything about it. I am sorry.”
