I realized the awful direction that Cage Gazers was taking in the first two chapters tonight while rereading it. I haven't touched the story since 2019 and, at that time, had been in relationships with men where the toxicity and gaslighting that Sam was doing in those chapters was the norm.
                 I don't want to romanticize shit like that in my novels, so I promptly wrote a chapter tonight that kicks that outta here. It's short, it's not the best thing I've ever written, but it feels good to have written it. As much planning and excitement as I had for Sam as a character, catboy is getting yeeted out of this narrative and I'm either going to carry on and let Erin heal and be herself, or I'm going to rewrite the story entirely, but without the creepy, predatory tropes.

I just thought up another concept, inspired by tumblr user @dark-of-the-void’s post “Next Time You’ll Know Better” on vampires that feed on memories. The idea is basically a short story about a vampire who goes around trying to find people suffering from memories they can’t handle, romances them and steals the memories they can’t forget when they have an episode, and once they’re better, as much as it hurts, he steals their memories of him. Sometimes days, sometimes years: all of those feelings and moments he could never replace until the only thing left of him is the faint familiarity and lingering emotions you feel. How about that?

Chapter two of Cage Gazers is up! I took a couple of days to write this, but I may go back and re-write some parts to clarify or to fix grammatical errors. It’s a lot less serious, however, which makes me happy! Enjoy!

I think I'm going to make a short story called "Fuck cats" about a character who hates cats, but she finds a really small one half dead on the streets and takes it it, only to one day come home to find a boy with cat ears and a tail sitting naked on her bed waiting for her to come home.
