Context: During Monday morning school assemblies, a prefect always had to go onstage to recite the weekly prayer. A friend of mine was in charge of getting people (prefects) to read the script. And yes, it was a scripted prayer. It's usually kept in the drawer in the prefect's room, which is some 100 meters away from the assembly yard, inclusive of two flights of stairs.
One Monday in 2014, he forgot to get someone. The teacher on duty was already onstage, on the mike, already inviting the prefect who was supposed to recite the prayer. Only no one had been given that duty.
I was standing beside my friend at the time and he looked at me, panicked. I knew what I had to do. I ran to get the paper. Mind you, we prefects have to wear thick blazers in the mornings and this time was no different.
I got the paper and ran back to the assembly yard, my body exhausted and heated up. I got onstage, sweating and panting like a dog. As I stepped onto the stage and took the mike, I knew it wasn't go well. I couldn't breathe properly, my lungs still trying to catch my breath.
As I spoke, my voice broke, me still trying to breathe in while speaking. "O-oh-ohhh, G-g-g-godd..." I could hear one or two snickers of laughter in the crowd. I sounded like I was having an asthma attack.
I wasn't. I just needed to catch my breath.
It was the longest prayer I've ever said. And when I was done, the teachers rushed around me. "Are you alright?" "Are you okay?" "Someone get the damn blazer off of him! I knew those things would burn them up!"
Well, Goddamn. That was humiliating.

He has no name.
He has no memories.
He is alone.
He can't...
