okay so today I got a book from target that was like $9 because it was on sale. The story felt interesting and I liked the cover and the title implied a girl boss diva mc, and I FULLY went into the book expecting some epic story only to get jumpscared by a s3x scene within 10 pages.....
There was text telling the readers that it was a more mature books, but it was REALLY small and in an area where it was so easy to miss.....
UGHHHHHHHHHHH I REALLY NEED TO STOP EXPECTING EVERY STORY I PICK UP TO BE BOOKS THAT FOCUSES MORE ON THE STORY INSTEAD OF THE INTIMACY OF THE CHARACTERS

DO NOT TAKE MOST OF THE CHAPTERS IN PENITENCE AS A MEASURE FOR MY FUTURE SKILLS, PLEASE! I WAS WRITING THEM WHEN MY MIND WAS IN A DARKER STATE AND I DON'T LIKE THE WAY I WROTE THE PLOT AND THE CHARACTERS!
If I could, I would turn the clock to when I started writing Penitence. I would thoroughly revise the plot, checking for any plot holes and any potential situations that can completely contradict the information I have provided to the reader, AND to present the ideas in a more acceptable way. And I will also have a more solid/stable plot because I did kinda change some parts of the plot because it was either: not logical enough, too predictable, contradicted the information I presented, and sometimes not good enough for me. I know, I know, not a good habit for someone that wants to be an author one day. I'm working on fixing that habit.

When the day comes that I can finally be an actual author at last, I shall write a story worth gold. A story that immerses the reader, a story that takes them out to escape reality for a few moments, to forget all their worries and just enjoy the show. A story that can be told even to younger people. The children have the right to quality stories too.
I want to write a story that expresses my creativity and my passions. A story that shows success, hardships, stakes, and inspires the readers. A story that stands out.
In other words, I just prefer epic, plot/worldbuilding focused stories instead of romance-focused ones. There's a lot of romance books popular at the moment and romance books are probably still popular in the future, sooo there's a neat little challenge for future me.

gang I low-key want to write another story that's not penitence. This came to me in a dream so it may or may not make sense lmao it felt interesting when I dreamt it. I will be making adjustments to the plot/characters if I do end up writing this.
okay okay SO for the plot (I don't want to spoil too much details) it's about the mc being sent to their distant relative's mansion somewhere in the woods for the school break(wOAH veri spooky ik 100% original place totally). The mc remembers visiting the mansion one or two times when they were 4-7 and remembered it looking more...well-built and less mouldy, less damp, had more plants, and didn't have giant chunks of the fences gone.
They reunite with their aunt (the person that owns the mansion) and instead of the warm person mc remembers them as, they're now stricter and harsher. Their cousin also ended up the same as their aunt because an incident happened in the mansion (and also because of the mould but whatever) and their uncle is dead.
Soo mc is given some kinda strange tasks to do (cleaning the horse stables even though there are no horses, ripping any grass out of the ground around the mansion during the daylight, making sure the indoor plants do not overgrow their pots, cleaning the faces of statues that guards the front gate or whatever, etc) and they were weirded out by that but they oblige anyways.
The mc is given only a couple of rules: Do not stray from the road/path and into the woods, do not venture at night, do not investigate noises at night, do not go into the woods, and if there are any strange looking footprints seen on the grassless ground then they must alert the cousin/aunt immediately.

Despite those rules, the mc can't help but notice the aunt going into the woods and coming back about an hour or two later completely fine. Soo one day the mc rebels secretly and goes into the woods. They then encounter a bunch of seemingly abandoned statues scattered around. Some had their faces cracked, some had a limb or two missing, and others had wings that seemed to have been punched off. While mc is examining the statues, there's one particular one that seemed to be following their every move. It was a statue with their eyes and ears cut off and had a giant chunk missing in their stomach.
(Idk where to go from here on because my dream ended here but I will add more if I have ideas)
