I was wondering, what are your thoughts on canon Lucas, Max, Will, Mike, Dustin, Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve? The canon versions of them, their actions, storylines, and relationships? And what do you personally think of your oc’s in your story? Their personalities, storylines, relationships, and how they affect your version of the show?

@Zmayra2006 Sydney's character is actually based on one of my friends. She's very strong-willed and would do anything for her friends, no matter the cost. That stays true the entire story. However, she deals with being adopted and a middle child in the Byers family. Joyce is not a bad mother by any means, but Sydney can sometimes go unsupervised because of Will. She's grown up wanting to protect others, especially her brother, and therefore puts herself behind everyone else and their feelings. This isn't helped by the whole love triangle with Mike and Eleven where she feels as if she's second choice despite being there first. She's also a year older than the rest of them, making her feel more responsible for them all, but also, she's the one who gets left alone in the school environment. She moved up the high school first, has classes by herself and she'll graduate before them all too. Sydney's grown up in a way where she wants others to be reliant on her, but she doesn't want to rely on them. That's why her relationship with Lucas is such a wake up call for her. The other OCs I would talk about too, but I'm planning on writing books from their perspective and I don't wanna spoil anything just yet! But I hope this answered your questions!

@Zmayra2006 Steve is kind of mid for me. He's enjoyable to watch, of course, but after season three, his character development just... stops. Its suggested he was going to get over Nancy, or he had, but then in season four, it came back? Personally, to me, that suggested his character development had regressed. I like it best when he's in a scene with Dustin or Robin, he works the best with them and I did enjoy the scenes he had with Jonathan when they weren't talking about Nancy. Steve's character would have been a billion times better if they allowed him to get over Nancy and progress to something other than just a babysitter. Onto my own OCs, Cassidy is obviously my main one. She will always be close to my heart. I started writing this story about two years ago and her storyline was my first idea for it all. I think having her begin as someone who believes herself to be weak and pretty useless and then growing to become so powerful and so brave than she's willing to throw her life on the line for the people she loves is good character development. She specifically deals with her self esteem a lot in the story which connects to her internalized homophobia in season two. She has to overcome all of that whilst fighting off aliens from other dimensions. While Eleven represents the Upside Down of the story and Mike may represent the Earth of the story, Cassidy represents the conjoin of both. She grew up normally, without the lab, but she discovers she has powers. She has to deal with the very real thing of her mom committing suicide, but that also connects back to the Upside Down. Her character is the physical embodiment of how reality meets the Upside Down and how she overcomes all of it in the end.

@Zmayra2006 Dustin is also one of my favourite characters. I think he was one of the only characters the Duffer Brothers did right overall. I love it when they have the comedic relief go through something traumatic and they become a lot more serious. I think it's so interesting to explore that grief and how they go through it. The only issue I have with Dustin's storyline throughout season five is that he's meant to be a part of the core four and it's the final season, but they decided to pair him up with Steve for the entirety of the season. I get it to a certain extent, I like their friendship, but I'd rather see his friendship with the other three boys nearer the end. Unfortunately, Jonathan is my least favourite character. The pictures he took of Nancy in season one were uncomfortable and he never properly apologizes for them and I just don't see him as a likeable character after that. And after season one and two, he kind of loses his value as a character anyway. He doesn't do much, he doesn't effect the plot, a lot of his storylines rely on other characters, specifically Nancy. I don't think they were right from the start, but Jonathan deciding to lie to her in season four just made it worse for me. Nancy is a cool character. I like the fact she ends up single by the end of it. She needs independence after spending the entire show either with Jonathan or Steve. I think there's approximately one episode where she's single. That's insane to me. She shows that you can be feminine and strong at the same time, she's a good role model for younger girls. I think she was far too good for both Jonathan or Steve and I'm glad she pursued her dreams without either of them in the end.
