Richard Zimler has published ten novels and two children’s books over the last 17 years. These works have been translated into 23 languages and have been bestsellers in 12 different countries, including the USA, UK, Australia, Brazil, Italy and Portugal.  He has won numerous literary prizes for his work.  He maintains homes in Porto, Portugal, and Paris, France.  

Richard Zimler was born in Roslyn, New York, in 1956. After earning a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion from Duke University (1977) and a master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University (1982), he worked for eight years as a journalist, mainly in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1990, he moved to Porto, Portugal, where he taught journalism for 16 years, both at the College of Journalism and the University of Porto. He stopped teaching in 2006.

Richard's ten novels are (in chronological order): The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon, Unholy Ghosts, The Angelic Darkness, Hunting Midnight, Guardian of the Dawn, The Search for Sana, The Seventh Gate, The Warsaw Anagrams, Strawberry Fields Forever (unpublished in the UK and USA) and The Night Watchman. He has also published two children’s books in Portugal and Brazil and scripted an award-winning short film based on one of his short stories.
