Here’s little spoiler of chapter 27 :
She was at the very top of the staircase, standing too close—far too close—to the edge. Her toes barely touched the polished wood, the drop behind her a dangerous step away.
But what froze me wasn’t her position.
It was her face.
Blank. Unmoving. Her eyes fixed on something in her hand—a small, silver pendant, the chain slipping between her fingers. The chandelier light caught it just enough for me to recognize it. My gut tightened.
“Ita,” I called softly, keeping my voice calm, controlled.
No reaction.
I took a slow step forward, then another. Her shoulders didn’t twitch. Her eyes didn’t shift. She was breathing, but barely—shallow, uneven, like every breath was an effort.
