                 “Earth Space Alliance,” he answered steadily, keeping his gaze locked on her in case she tried anything reckless. His hand stayed on his weapon, but his grip eased when she lowered hers, the tension in his shoulders melting just a bit as he let out a quiet breath. “We’re a specialized military force that handles threats beyond Earth’s atmosphere—and anything from the stars that manages to crash onto this planet,” he explained, finally letting his hand fall to his side. “Seeing someone else out here is… unusual. I won’t report you, but I need to know—who do you work for?”

                 Kael’s eyes stayed locked on her, hard and unblinking, his brows tightening as caution settled over his features. His hand drifted toward the holster at his thigh—resting on the grip, not drawing, but ready if the situation took a turn. Hurting her wasn’t his aim…but he wasn’t about to be caught off guard either.
            
                 “Your assignment shouldn’t bring you out here,” he said, voice level but edged with authority. “This zone is restricted—ESA jurisdiction only.” A beat. “We’ve got hostiles crawling all over this sector, and we’re the ones designated to deal with them. Funny timing for someone from another organization to wander in.”
