jaime whined as he reached out for diego. "don't go .. " his free hand moved to wipe the tears falling from his eyes. he couldn't recall what exactly had happened. he had been .. asleep? and then the bad .. bad things. then diego was shaking him awake and now ..
"jaime .. jaime doesn't want to go back. please don't get rid of him. he can — he can do better. promise!"
"but jaime was / bad / — jaime made diego mad. jaime is no good — he's not , he's not." a hand moved to tug at his hair — fearful , frantic.

jaime stared at the shattered remains of the plate he had dropped. body tense , he cowered away. "sorry — didn't .. didn't mean to .. "
jaime tensed at the touch — he wasn't expecting it to be gentle. he had done something / bad / , punishment was a given. if he wasn't even allowed to help fix his mistake? then he did something really , really wrong.
"jaime can help — he can! please , please .. " he tried to remove the hand on his shoulder , frantic in his need to still be useful.
@feralfights- (...) a hand was quick to grab onto jaime's shoulder . firm but gentle . `` woah , hey , you're stepping in the shards . look i got it. just let me handle it . I don't need you hurting yourself . ``
"no , no , no — jaime will clean. jaime will." he stepped over , uncaring of the shards that dug into his feet — he was still reluctant to wear the shoes they tried to give him.
"jaime can help — he is strong." he nodded , puffing out his chest in a show of strength.
the teen immediately perked up and a small smile grew on his face. "will do good! just say and jaime will do."

jaime wrinkled his nose , shaking his head in a firm denial. "no. don't want."
he shifted a bit in his seat , eyeing the plate of food cautiously. he / did / help today , but was it enough to earn a meal?
he was hungry though .. and it was being offered. a quiet whine left him as he tried to figure out what was right and what was wrong.
" .. diego .. won't be mad? no yell?"

" .. nothing." a lie — they were only here because of his stomach growling in this first place. "jaime has not earned. no want."
"is there somethin' y'need? you've been standin' there lookin' lost for awhile now."
jaime looked between the food and the other. " .. what do I gotta do for it?" nothing this good ever came for free.
