Just wanna share some story of mine.
I once cut my very long hair into shoulder-length short at a salon in my area. There was a woman in her 50s. She asked me "why cut your hair? Are you depressed?" I was obviously very surprised to hear that, but I kindly replied "no mam, I just want to change my appearance".
What concerns me is 1) Does someone who cut their long hair mean that person is depressed? I'm not sure a person's mental problems can be seen from what he does, there are some people who cover it and not many people who understand or are sensitive to other people's conditions. 2) Can you ask someone's mental problems so presumptuously? You can ask politely without bringing up those words and I don't think asking if someone is depressed face-to-face in front of that person is acceptable. 3) In my country, not many people understand mental health, if someone shows symptoms of anxiety or panic attack they will only say that the person is "seeking attention", and such people will only believe if someone has committed self harm or suicide.
I'm sorry if what I write above is wrong, I don't really know about mental health but I try to learn it, just to make sure that I'm okay and other people around me is save, and if I can I will help other who needs help. I will definitely grateful if you guys can share what I need to know about mental health.
