I just started The Secret, and even from the first chapter I can already see why Amelia being a writer matters so much to the story. It’s not just a cute detail — it feels like writing is the place where she puts the love, hope, and happy endings she isn’t sure she believes in anymore.
I’m working on a YA high school romance with Lou and JJ, where Lou hides behind jokes, overthinking, and chaos, while JJ is someone from her past who starts noticing the little things she tries to brush off. So I’m really interested in how you handle characters who don’t fully trust love, but still secretly want to believe in it.
Since your story has fake dating, healing, trust issues, and a writer heroine, I wanted to ask: how do you keep a romance from “fixing” a character too quickly? How do you let love help them open up without making it feel like love magically solves everything?

@Author_without That's such a good question, and honestly, with Ethan and Amelia, I never wanted love to be the thing that fixes them. Amelia's hurt from her parents' divorce, her fears, and the way she sees relationships don't disappear just because Ethan walks into her life, and Ethan has his own insecurities that don't magically go away either. What I wanted was for them to become the kind of people who make each other feel safe enough to be honest, even about the things they'd rather keep hidden. Love doesn't solve their problems, but it gives them someone to lean on while they learn how to face those problems themselves, and I think that's a lot more meaningful than being "fixed" by a relationship❤️
