My process of choosing what fanfics to read (as a black woman):
          
          1. Is the oc/reader black? If yes, enjoy the read.
          2. If no, can the oc/reader be read as poc friendly? If yes, enjoy the read.
          3. If no, gauge the quality of the other aspects of the fic (cover, description, number of chapters and in that order). If good quality, enjoy the read.
          4. If no, read the first chapter to decide readability. If good, enjoy the read.
          5. If no, move to the next book and repeat from step 1.
          
          Optional step. Check for smut and if I feel like putting up with being blindsided by smut bc there’s only a warning on like 2 out of 11 scenes.

Writing a fanfic is watching a movie through 3-minute video clips in a playlist on YouTube.
          
          
          Writing an original fic is listening to music and watching a movie in your head between the rest of your thoughts.
