Once upon a time a girl named padmavathi in jagannath puri used to sing "GITA GOVINDA" written by jaydev goswami. She used to sing with so much of emotion. To listen to her songs, Jagannath swami used to leave sanctuary and used to go behind her. When did she used to sing? In brinjal (egg plant) farm, while plucking those brinjals, during night, she used to sing and go. So even jagannath swami used to go behind padmavathi. There are some thorns in that brinjal farm. Those thorns were pricking swami and due to thorns his upper cloth was tangled and left behind. Next morning ,for mangala darshan , when the priest removed the curtain of the santuary, swami's upper was not found and also observed there are traces of dust,dirt on swami. Then the priest thinks that there's something wrong and informs the king. The king starts fasting thinking that there's something wrong in the swami's service. While the king was on his fast, during night, jagannath swami appears in his dreams and tells king that "you have not done anything wrong,stop your fasting, I like padmavathi's song, while going back of her to the brinjal farm, and there my upper cloth fell down". Next day the king searches for the brinjal farm and finds padmavathi ,the king found the lord's upper cloth lying in the farm. The king goes to padmavathi and requests her "we provide all amenities that you need,every night you need to sing jaydev goswami's gita govind to jagannath swami". She readily accepts. From then till now , this has become a ritual. so this is the nature of swami. If anyone calls him so much of love, that's enough ,he will go back of those devotees. jai shree krishna.
