it’s been just you and i for a while now—

aurelia clutches at her side as she makes an attempt to rise from her spot.
            a wince runs past her lips and her face contorts into a look of pain. thor tries to come to her side to help her, but she refuses, shaking her head. arms wobble shakily, but eventually she manages to push herself up. she makes a note to repay thor for all he’s done for her once she can rise again. she glances down at the bandages thor has put over her wounds and she sees dark red splotches of blood peeking through the white
            cloth. through shaky breaths, she speaks quietly.

            as hot as the sun gnaws at my side like vultures to a dead body in the sahara desert, coursing through my veins. the battle’s long done by now, with nothing left but scars and destruction left behind as evidence. in my ear, ra tells me i am lucky to have been saved by the æsir with the injuries i received, but deep down i ask myself, “am i t͟r͟u͟l͟y͟ grateful to have survived this? is this what i should be grateful for in my life? bloodshed? death?” i remember every single life that’s been taken by my hands, every single pulse that’s died out in my presence, every warm touch that’s set in my horizon to never rise again, is t͟h͟a͟t͟ something i should be grateful for?     i seem to find myself with two gods from lifetimes other than my own uttering two messages in my ears: one that speaks of hope, of perseverance, sparking within me like a light of hope within the void of the night that tells you to keep living, and one of anger, one that speaks of my faults like a raging fury of fire and passion that burns away at my resolve.
