at first, people kept saying it was an exaggeration to make such a comparison, but the increasing political backsliding & normalised hostility towards minorities are getting to such levels that one cannot even try to pretend it’s "only one country" or "it’s not that serious"

& it’s not even like it’s just "facism is back", but the way the informal agreement (or cordon sanitaire, whatever) among mainstream parties not to normalise or work with far-right positions is eroding is really scary. because once that erodes and figures with literally institutional authority (police, civil servants, sometimes judiciary) stop feeling social pressure for openly discriminatory behavior, we get this stupid compounding effect where prejudice that always existed (unfortunately) suddenly has enforcement power behind it again.

@sankofas it really is starting to look like the 1930s. History is repeating. Even in Austria, they're trying to ban hijabs in schools, as well. It's so disgusting and so backwards. Women have the right to wear less (and I'm not hating on them, or anything of that sort) but when it comes to the women who want to cover up or wear modest clothes like the Hijab or abaya's suddenly we're oppressed. Even if hijabi women say they want to wear the Hijab, that they love it, people are like, "No, you're brainwashed." Like, wtf??!!!

As a hijabi woman, and with the rise of crimes against Muslims, it's honestly scary to go outside. I have to look over my shoulder all the time to make sure I'm not being followed.
