I am so concerned by the shear amount of Sirius Black fanfics I just found that are carbon copies of Rebel Rebel, genuinely I am so confused and bothered by it? The nerve to publish your unoriginal shit whilst following me. I recognise almost all the usernames to be accounts that voted for and commented on chapters of Rebel Rebel when I was updating. This was part of the reason I stopped updating, i'd get a messages weekly about fics that were so blatantly copies and it just put me off. I've messaged three authors who took down or probably had to spend days of their sorry lives changing their characters and plot, I've just logged back in to find so many more. I was very young when I wrote Rebel Rebel but always had the capacity to give credit where credit is due to any inspiration I took from other shows and asked author permission from other fics (mainly on ao3) to use their ideas - which was not often. The answer was always the same, yes, as long as you give public credit? That respect should be universal across platforms. If anyone reading has had any part of this, I really don't mind but I would have preferred you ask!
In regard to Rebel Rebel, all I can say is that it is a shitshow. The entire first section is written so poorly considering I had never written before, and I don't have the same passion for the fic I used to have to be able to rewrite it.
Another major flaw is the mature themes that I don't believe any 15-year-old has the capability to explore properly. I am saying this now, Rebel Rebel romanticises some very dark issues and Sirius & Lyra's entire relationship is so horrifically dysfunctional and far from reality that I want to apologise.
I am going to take the fic down in two weeks, I am a legal adult now and genuinely feel it is safest for young, impressionable minds to not have access to a very poorly executed toxic relationship with very violent smut and some severe mental health problems that Lyra did not cope with in a healthy way.
