"detective inspector. a pleasure." irene leaned against the doorway to greg's office. she wore a formfitting white dress and dark red lipstick, long brown hair falling loosely at her sides. it was perhaps unsurprising that she'd managed to sneak into scotland yard, considering her beauty and charm and how susceptible phillip anderson was to both. "pardon the intrusion. i wanted to meet the first man who bothered to befriend the holmes' brothers."

greg rolled his eyes, leaning his elbows on his desk, rubbing an eye with one hand before looking back up at her. “/please/ help yourself to my coffee, my desk, anything you’d like. can i interest you on my lunch as well?” he gave a terse reply, voice dripping with sarcasm and disdain. he glared at the contrasting stain on his mug, he’d have to ask sally how to remove lipstick stains before the wife caught him with it. he swallowed when he was face to face with her, feeling her heel drag along his knee. he couldn’t deny the fact she was attractive, yet the list of convictions would be enough to deter any sane person. the corner of his lip twitched as he held her eyes, “i knew of you, irene. i didn’t need to concern myself with your business. your definition of /friend/ might differ to sherlock’s. /i/ was sherlock’s friend, he never mentioned you. don’t drag him into whatever trouble you’re in, he doesn’t need that.” his brown eyes analysed her face, pushing himself back, the wheels rolling against the worn carpet of his office. the distance was needed as he glanced down at her form, nose scrunching when he saw the papers he spent all morning organising now in disarray again.

franky, irene was disappointed with the indifference of london's finest and bravest officers. only one seemed like they had much of a spine at all, and irene had taken great lengths to dodge the curly-haired female sergeant, not quite certain that her charm would work on her. irene reached out, pale digits curling around the cup of black coffee as she took a long, lingering sip. her red lip stick stained the rim of the cup, glaringly visible in the grueling white office light. she set down the mug with an airy sigh. "suppose you aren't, are you? makes sense. you'd have to have a spine to put up with the pair of them," irene clipped, referring to the two brothers. she swung her legs to the opposite end of the desk, pointed kitten heels brushing against greg's knee as she ducked down to meet his eyes. "curiosity. we never overlapped back in the day, you know. but i was sherlock's /friend/," she said, in a tone that implied something else.

greg glanced at the shut door, wishing it had been left open so he could act as if there was some form of emergency he needed to leave for. or to signal to sally for a rescue. she was good at that. he sighed when she sat on his desk, he was in enough trouble at home without coming home smelling of another woman’s perfume. easy to brush off as a suspect if he came home smelling sweet but it his paperwork wore the same scent, that would be harder to explain. he smiled tightly, knowing which /employee/ she was referring to, slightly surprised no one less malleable stopped her. part of the charm that he was warned about he decided. greg picked up his mug, wincing as he burnt his tongue on the liquid, using his pen to flatten the corner of the papers to stop her prying. she could get the information anywhere, greg’s desk was not going to be that place. “whatever you’re selling, i’m not buying,” he brushed off her comment easily, setting the coffee back down before relocating it when he noticed that it was too close to some files. “tense? no. busy? very. so why are you actually here? surely this could have been an e-mail?” easier to ignore.
