ACT ONE ╱ THE VILLAGE
⠀⠀⠀⠀ herthand was a medium-sized village on the mainlands, with just about four-hundred people living in it. they had their duties—the hunters, the caretakers, the teachers, the wood-workers, the blacksmiths. everybody had their roles in society, everybody had a part that was given to them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ aaliyah was a caretaker who had her own building, “heaven,” as her people called it. she was a natural-born caretaker, capable of curing almost any ailment and making people feel good with themselves. this wasn’t just her duty, but what she believed was her purpose in life—her divine duty. she was supposed to give back to her people, as they have given to her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ after all, she was deathly sick when she was just a baby. no one wanted to care for her, except the caretaker himself: george hallows. he nursed her back to health, and instead of giving her back to her parents, kept her. he made sure she was happy and healthy. george is the reason she was a caretaker, and why she will always put someone’s safety above her own—because she can handle it while they cannot.
