tday someone in my language & literature class brought a great point abt wuthering heights, specifically the debates around heathcliffs race & swap in the new adaptation. they brought up how they think a portion of the people angry about the race change aren’t angry for the right reasons (racial identity erasure) rather angry that a white man is being portrayed in a villainous way. this was interesting to me because i always wondered what emily brontes intentions were when writing a (presumably non white) character. did she intend for heathcliffs revenge to be seen as reparations? but what would a white woman during her time know about reparations for a poc? or is his revenge just meant to be seen as a result of anger from racial attacks?
