@baredteeth ⠀⠀ [nick presses his lips into a thin line, but doesn’t comment on the way that sebastian looks away from him. he wonders, of course, but he doesn’t make him feel guilty for it. how could he? he was the very same way, and for once, nicholas was acting just like his mother—- verbally caring for somebody else, not just keeping it inside of him and his little realm.]   well, that fucking sucks because i’m gonna be worried about you anyway. you best get used to it now.   [WOW, YOU SOUND JUST LIKE HER. yeah, well, he learned from the best.]

[  sebastian retracted his claws,  clenching his fingers into a tight fist and shoving them into his coat.  he shrugged,  finding the floor suddenly interesting.  no one,  not even himself,  cared about how he dealt with the pain.  he just did.  ]  no,  not really.  i just make sure nothings broken and push through.  but,  thanks,  if it gets too bad i’ll let you know.  [  his head shots up,  looking a bit flustered.  it almost sounded like he  / cared /  for him. ]  you don’t have to worry about me,  it’s nothing new. 

@baredteeth ⠀⠀ [nicholas lets his hands fall the moment that sebastian pulls his hand away. he’s not going to hold onto it—- YES, THAT’D BE WEIRD. he simply nods his head and stuffs his hands into his pockets, tongue gliding along his teeth beneath his lips.]   do you.. at least do something to deal with the pain from it?   [WHY IS THAT WHAT YOU ASK, NICHOLAS?]   i could.. help you. well, more accurately, my brother could. pain is his department, and you’ve already met my sister—- hers is general wounds.   [DO YOU NOT WANT TO GO INTO YOURS? /no/, at least not yet.]   just.. let me know, okay? i don’t want to have to worry.

[  sebastian’s grin was wide,  the corner of his eyes crinkled as he laughed.  god,  he was probably the cutest guy he’d met.  ]  no,  no it was perfect.  i will talk to you so you keep your promise.

LIKELY NOT WELL. he should probably respond soon, shouldn’t he? OBVIOUSLY.]   i’ll talk to you, if you talk to me.   [SO SMOOTH, GREAT JOB. PLEASE NOTE THE SARCASM.]   i mean.. fuck. did i mess that up?

[  this time he let out a huff of laughter,  bright compared to his demeanor.  ]  i’m the same way,  so i can’t hold it against you.  was i too hopeful that a cute guy would talk to me  ?  [  as the words left his mouth,  he avoided eye contact.  it was the truth,  but even then he realized how bold it was too late.  ]

THE SHADOW REALM;
                 —  it is a realm that he created at a young age that became his safe space. he often travels to this realm when things get increasingly difficult for him to handle, as he easily becomes unstable.
                 —  the shadow realm is actually sentient, and it chooses to protect nicholas and the people in his life. nicholas does not know the sentience of the shadow realm, he just thinks it’s voice is in his head, not his pocket realm.
                 —  throughout the years, nicholas’ mind has traveled to the shadow realm, leaving his body vulnerable to attack and injury. when in this state, nicholas’ body produces large shadows that move like mist. anyone can enter in this state, but it is incredibly difficult to leave it without nicholas himself.
                 —  the shadow realm does not need sustenance, but it’s keeper does; therefore the shadow realm will do what it must to make sure nicholas takes proper care of himself (eating, drinking, sleeping).
                 —  when people are forced into the shadow realm, whether by nicholas’ choice or the realm’s, the shadow realm makes the victim insane. because while nicky sees a diner that he used to go to, everyone sees something different but (seemingly) harmless. this seemingly harmless vision is an illusion, a never-ending loop that drives them mad.
                 —  he is very protective of the shadow realm, and never lets anyone see it until they are close. of course, this excludes the moments where the shadow realm seeps out of him when he is mentally there, because that is out of his control.

BASICS;
                 —  theodore && lilian hayes are nick’s older siblings. they raised him after their mother died when nick was just three years old.
                 —  while theo and lili have nice powers, nick’s aren’t so nice. his powers manifest as shadows, but it is so much more. he has access to the “shadow realm,” a realm that he created when he was very young. it has become his safe space, and he will often go there when things get incredibly difficult.
                 —  he travels through the shadows / darkness, but usually only when he panics. he likes to remain level-headed because of this fact, as he doesn’t want to just disappear and reappear somewhere entirely new.
                 —  when he was younger, his powers used to cause him great physical pain. he would scream and cry, going between the shadow realm and the real world. not always would he appear at the same place that he left, which would cause great distress to theo and lili.
                 —  his mother-figure is edena fraiser, with whom he lives with. not only does she help him control his powers, she loves him like he imagines a mother would. he even calls her his mother.
                 —  he picks up shifts at edena’s bar, usually on the slow nights or when his siblings can’t work.
                 —  he struggles with suicidal thoughts, as he feels empty inside and views that he’s a “monster.” he does not know if this will change, but he is trying to find things that he enjoys.
