Hey guys

Waukesha

"And Shelley how do you know he has a genuine reason?" Brianna asked. "Did he say why?" She said in sincere anger on behalf of her friend.

"I just thought perhaps he did" Shelley said defensively.

"No. He just left a message on the answering machine saying it was off and good luck with my life not that I had much luck anyway".

About to start the waterworks again, she bade her friends goodbye." I'll talk to you girls later. I need to do something."

"Bye sugarpie. Everything will be fine you'll see. Just have some rest for now." Brianna soothed her.

"We'll talk about it tomorrow, okay? Bye honey."

She replaced the phone back and dragged herself off to bed. Melanie stared at the ceiling remembering all the memories she made with Peter, all the plans for her dream wedding. 'All in the dust now.'

Her eyes welled up with tears. She cried herself to sleep, her pillow wet with tears.

"Oh baby, what happened? Where is that good for nothing asshole? I'm going to give him a piece of my mind when I see him. Tom! You know what Peter did? He broke our baby's heart."

"Sweetie, are you okay? What is his reason?" Her dad's voice came on "Are you sure you're okay? We're flying in as soon as we clear up here. It'll be okay."

"Dad, no need. I'm fine. I'll get over it. I'm your tough tyke, remember?"

          "But honey..."

"I'll be fine. You and Mum should just hang in there. And tell Brad to stay also. If he comes he's going to end with an assault charge." Melanie said.

"We'll strike a deal with you. We're going to give you one month and then we're coming in. Okay?" Lauren bargained.

"That's okay. Thanks mum. Bye mum, bye dad. Give my love to Brad."

And she cut the call. Then she placed another call to Shelley and Brianna, her two best friends.

"Shelley, Bri, the wedding's off. No more bride, no bachelorrette, no bridesmaids. It's all off." She said in a dead voice.

          "What?" They both screamed.

"That is virtually impossible! Why is the wedding off? Did you and Peter have another spat?" Shelley asked.

"It's much more than that now. He called off the wedding just about three hours ago".

"He must have a genuine reason for that. Are you sure it isn't your fault Melanie?" said Shelley.

"Don't you dare blame her!" "I didn't do anything" Brianna and Melanie said at the same time.

"Melanie you're fired", shouted Hayley Jones one monday morning.

"But sir! I don't understand where I went wrong. What did I do so I can fix my error?" Melanie said hurriedly in an attempt to save the job she so much loved.

"Your things have been packed and they're waiting on your desk. Now get out before I call security", said Hayley.

Melanie was going to say something more but she saw boss's hand going closer to the telephone and she quickly turned out of his office.

She went to her cubicle and carried her box. She took one last look at her office then she went out of Jones publishers.

As soon as she got home, she went to her laptop and placed several ads for publishing companies. Then she checked her voicemails.

The first was from an electronics industry and the second from an old acquaintance. It was the third that really got her attention.

"Melanie, it's me Peter. It's over between us. I'm calling off our engagement and marrying a better person. Good luck with your life. Not like you've had much luck anyway."

And everything went silent. Two fat tears dropped from her eyes as she sank to the floor. 'What have I been doing wrong? First my job and now my wedding? ' After about two hours, her head was pounding. She went into the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face.

She looked at her bloodshot eyes and pale face. 'How pathetic.' She placed a call to her parents.

"Mum, I have something to tell you and Dad."

"Honey that can wait. I'm in a fix here. The caterers just cancelled! They said they have another appointment!! Imagine the pigs, how will we have a wedding without food? Oh it's going to be so embarrassing..." her mother, Lauren said in a frenzy.

"Mum there is no wedding. Peter called it off."blurted Melanie about to burst into tears.
