changing your profile picture to purple is NOT performative. speaking up is NOT performative. wanting change for women all around the world is NOT performative. if you have even the slightest platform, it's important to SPEAK UP!

currently, women in south africa are facing one of the most violent and deadly gender-based epidemics in the world.

south africa's femicide rate is SIX times higher than the global average.

every 2 and a half hours, a woman in south africa is killed due to gender-based violence.

over 43,000 rapes and 53,000 sexual offenses were reported just in 2022/2023.

about 1 in 3 women have experienced physical violence in their lifetime.

so again, with that being said, a purple profile picture is not performative. granted, a purple profile picture won't stop this altogether but it will help more than you think. show your support.

          women for change.

@shannonsriver Thank you for saying this. I can't go to the protest as I am a minor, so changing my profile picture is the least I can do to spread awareness
