Welllll, he kinda did it to himself. There is a negligible difference in the weight of trophies won.
They both performed stellar seasons, and while Rodri admittedly had more impact (City were almost in shambles without him), Vini was more pleasing to the eye being an attacker, which impacts such awards
It all came down to the 3rd criteria, which is class and fair play, and Rodri is a good puppy while Vini, even though his effort is admirable in his crusade, is very aggressive about it which killed his chances.
