So, I've noticed we're getting a lot of lesbians and female bisexuals in TV nowadays, like Luz and Amity, Korra and Asami, and Ruby and Sapphire, which is absolutely amazing. I feel represented, and they're doing wonderful. But... what about the gays? Pansexuals? Nonbinary? Trans? Genderfluid? I have not seen a single relationship involving someone of any of these alignments, and no, Voltron, you turned Shiro's relationship into shit so you don't count. I think we could do an even better job with this. And I mean, like, actual romances. Not one-night stands where one made "a mistake" and it never shows up again. Not a character who was only "pretending" to be one gender and reveals themself as another *cough, cough* PIDGE *cough, cough*. I love the fanon interpretations of so many works, they're absolutely amazing and are so diverse.
Which leads to another point! Race. They are including white, black, mexican, mixed, and so many more people, I know. But they're portrayed as American, with American accents, American traditions, and American lives. What about Asian people? Irish? Russian? European? South American? Indian? Native American? Yes, the colors are there. But the culture is not. My parents are immigrants from another continent entirely, and although I don't live there, I still go and visit, I'm involved in my culture and community and I identify as such. I have not seen a show represent things like this, how someone's race, religion and culture are woven into their life. No, Miraculous doesn't count either, Marinette doesn't look Chinese at all, which would be all fine and dandy if her culture wasn't played as a plot device. Oh, Adrien, a white French boy knows more Chinese than a girl of Chinese descent would. Oh, he's helping her communicate to her relative who cannot speak French, ever the white savior.
